Whois Privacy Protection, occasionally also called WHOIS or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the genuine contact details of domain registrants on WHOIS web sites. Without this service, the name, postal address and email account of any domain name owner will be openly available. Supplying false details during the registration process or altering the real info afterwards will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing their domain name ownership rights. The policies approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), require that the WHOIS details must be valid and up to date at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by domain registrars as a response to the arising concerns for potential identity fraud. If the protection service is enabled, the domain registrar’s contact details will be shown instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domains support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that do not.

Whois Privacy Protection in Web Hosting

If you have ordered a web hosting from us and you’ve registered one or more domain names under your account, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of them without effort and to keep your personal details safe. Of course, this can be done only with the TLD extensions that support this service. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon next to each of your domain names. Its color will inform you if a domain name is Whois Privacy Protected or not and in the second case, you can add Whois Privacy Protection with only a few clicks. In this way, you can shield your private data even if you haven’t enabled the Whois Privacy Protection service upon signup. You’ll be able to renew or to disable the Whois Privacy Protection service for any of your domain names just as easily.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

Enabling Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is amazingly easy if you’ve got a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain is registered through us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with every semi-dedicated plan. In case a particular generic or country-specific top-level domain name is Whois Privacy Protection-eligible, you’ll see a tiny symbol on its right. To enable the Whois Privacy Protection service, you will have to click on it. In the same fashion, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can order Whois Privacy Protection for a domain during the account order process as well, but since the service is optional, we will give you the possibility to add it to any of your domain names at a later point in time in case you think things over and decide to conceal your private details from the general public after you’ve already ordered the account.
